Companies making news this week include Inforonics, Cisco, RADVISION, United Data Technologies (UDT), Wainhouse, Esnatech, Microsoft, Handango, Avaya, Mitel, Nortel, Iwatsu, AASTRA, 3Com, Asterisk, eOn, Teltronics, Siemens Enterprise Communications, Axacore, TelcoBridges and BrightCom.
An exhaustive study by TheInfoPro strongly suggests that UC weathered the recession better than other telecom/IT platforms. Bill Trussell, TIP's managing director of Networking Research, says the perceived value of unified communications platforms enabled it to make progress both in total adoption and in relation to other platforms.
Avaya today held a teleconference and Webinar describing its roadmap and the integration of Nortel Enterprise Solutions' products. In the big picture, however, the company was talking as much about the future of UC as it was about throwing together two product lines.
Two deals are important in their own right and as part of the accelerating evolution of the telecom and IT industries. At the end of the day, two things are certain: Avaya is gaining valuable access by its auction win of Nortel Enterprise Solutions’ assets, and Cisco will be the big cheese in video conferencing with its acquisition of Tandberg.
A stalking horse bid -- one than comes from a business chosen by the bankrupt company – was made by Genband in an effort to gain control of Nortel’s Carrier VoIP and Applications Solutions (CVAS) business. The bid is, in essence, is the next phase of the deconstruction of Nortel.
